Awards Program
Participation in the CSHEMA Awards Program will bring you recognition by your peers, your local press, and your campus community as well as a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of pride for your department. You will also receive valuable suggestions for continued program improvement! Following is a description of the current awards:
Preparing this award entry is in itself an excellent way to audit your own program. The application was revised in 2007 to more accurately reflect current EHS programs. New regulations and programs, such as environmental and emergency planning and management programs are now included. This award program has been coordinated with the benchmarking program. Take advantage of the opportunity to receive recognition for your program at the following levels: Award of Honor (the top level), Award of Merit, Award of Commendation, and the President’s Letter are recognized
This is a new award that has been developed specifically for small colleges and universities, defined as having three or less EHS professionals in the Health and Safety Office. The application process is similar to the award described above, but the research programs such as radiation, chemical, and biosafety programs have been de-emphasized.
Share your creativity with other CSHEMA members and receive recognition that will prove to your campus that your program truly is innovative and truly resolving a problem! Help out other schools while allowing your school to be placed in the spotlight among its peers. Complete the application and award levels given are for Distinction and Recognition. All entries are recognized.
See how your school's newsletter compares to others. Compete for the Award of Excellence and go home with a beautiful plaque to display your award winning publication. Participation and recognition may be the lift you and your staff need to maintain a top rate newsletter! At the judge's discretion, second and third place certificates are given to particularly effective newsletters. Newsletter submittals need to be on this application and may describe either electronic or paper newsletters.
This award promotes interest in and encourages development of innovative programs that improve fire and life safety awareness at colleges and universities.
The CSHEMA Distinguished Service Award (DSA) is the highest award given to individuals in recognition of outstanding service in the field of environmental health and safety. CSHEMA members, board members, or officers may make nominations for this award using the CSHEMA DSA application. Only one individual shall receive this award each year. The CSHEMA Awards & Recognition Committee will evaluate all nominations according to the guidelines to facilitate the proper use of this award program and will submit their decision to the Board of Directors for approval.
The CSHEMA Honorary Life Award (HLA) is granted to retired individuals who have made significant and meaningful contributions to environmental health and safety programs for at least ten years as a member of CSHEMA.
This award has been established to recognize outstanding involvement and support of senior administrators for their understanding of how important environmental stewardship and health and safety issues are to their institutions.
