CSHEMA Wants You!

If you know someone that you think would be a good addition to the CSHEMA team, please complete the call for candidates form below. Even if you are not sure whether or not your nominee meets these qualifications, please submit their name! The Nominating Committee will vet all candidates to be sure they meet the qualifications. The deadline to submit a candidate for nomination is February 28, 2010. Please review the qualifications for serving on the CSHEMA Board of Directors.

CSHEMA Board of Directors Qualifications

The Recording Secretary and the six (6) director positions are contested positions. Each year, two (2) directors and the recording secretary will be elected. There will be two (2) nominiees for each of the two (2) vacating directors positions and two (2) nominees for the recording secretary. The treasurer's position shall have one (1) nominee. Additional nominees for any position may be made by the general membership in accordance with Article VIII, Section 5 of the Operating Procedures.

The recording secretary serves a total term of four years: vice president in the second year of their term; the president in the third year; and immediate past president in the fourth year. Directors and the treasurer serve a term of three years.

Nominees for recording secretary should meet the following qualifications:

  • Have at least five (5) years of experience as a health and safety professional, ideally in higher education
  • Have attended at least two (2) CSHEMA annual conferences
  • Have a record of active participation in and knowledge in CSHEMA (which may include serving on a committee, task force, or special project). In lieu of CSHEMA service, have at least one year of previous volunteer board or executive committee experience, not necessarily with CSHEMA; and
  • Have the support of their employer to attend all Board of Directors meetings, the CSHEMA annual conference, and other related activities as appropriate during their term of office
OR
  • Have served on the CSHEMA Board of Directors within the past three (3) years.
Nominees for director should meet the following qualifications:
  • Have at least five (5) years experience as a health and safety professional, ideally in higher education
  • Have attended at least two (2) CSHEMA annual conferences
  • Have a record of active participation in and knowledge in CSHEMA (which may include serving on a committee, task force, or special project). In lieu of CSHEMA service, have at least one year of previous volunteer board or executive committee experience, not necessarily with CSHEMA; and
