Planning volunteer positions work well for those interested in collaborating to create member experiences such as events, research, fundraising, and other opportunities.

Conference Planning Team

Provide leadership in planning CSHEMA’s premier educational and networking event. Individuals serve less than one year, the pace of which hastens between February and July. Responsibilities include:

  • Crafting a schedule that balances the Annual Conference's educational, networking, and social purposes.
  • Identifying keynote speakers of interest to CSHEMA participants.
  • Participating in monthly conference calls and a site visit (paid by CSHEMA) to the conference location.

The president selects team members annually.


Symposium Planning Team

Volunteering on the planning committee for a CSHEMA Symposium will help you make greater connections with colleagues in your area, provide an opportunity for your staff to present their expertise and offers an excellent time to showcase exciting projects and successes from your campus. Working together with the CSHEMA Central Office, the planning committee is responsible for:

  • Curating high quality and in-demand content that meets the needs of EHS professionals in the surrounding area.

These are ad hoc groups, created and filled as needed.


Professional Development Committee

Develop core competencies for the EHS profession and design year-round programmatic efforts to meet those needs. Individuals serve one-year terms beginning in July at the Annual Conference. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with other volunteer groups to create a calendar for online learning.
  • Encouraging professionals to share their expertise through presentations at the Annual Conference and Symposia.

The president selects team members annually in July.


Awards Committee

Recognize the innovative work and leadership within the EHS profession. Generally, this committee initially meets monthly but will need to come together more frequently during the first and second quarter of the calendar year. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring awards meet the needs of the membership and the profession.
  • Proposing changes and developing new awards as necessary.
  • Evaluating award entries based on criteria.

The president selects team members annually in July.


Scholarship Committee

Engage students as aspiring safety professionals and members who are seeking to further their education in the environmental health and safety field through scholarship opportunities. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure scholarship opportunities meet the needs of students and members.
  • Plan and participate in activities to help fund CSHEMA’s scholarship program. 
  • Evaluate applications and select scholarship recipients based on criteria.

Conference Education Committee

Provide leadership in planning the educational program for CSHEMA’s annual conference. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a well-rounded technical session and professional development offering.
  • Work with representatives of CSHEMA’s Communities of Practice to solicit and select relevant session proposals.
  • Review abstract submissions and select educational sessions that will engage members and enhance the overall value of the annual conference.
