Presenting a review of fire codes and safety standards relevant to hot work, based on current model fire codes (2021 International Codes, 2021 NFPA – Fire Code, and 2019 NFPA 45 – Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals) and current OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 subpart Q and 29 CFR 1926 subpart J), clarifying how open flame and hot work safety requirements apply inside and outside laboratories using chemicals.

John DeLaHunt has managed EHS and risk in higher education since 1989.  At Colorado College, he launched a comprehensive EHS program.  At The University of Texas at San Antonio, he serves as the university's Assistant Director of Risk, Occupational, Environmental Health and Safety, and University Fire Marshal.

Mr. DeLaHunt holds a Bachelor's degree in chemistry from Colorado College, and an MBA in finance and management from University of Colorado - Colorado Springs.
