These volunteers serve by supporting peer networking and resource sharing, collaborating on projects that meet a specific need, or communicating the value of CSHEMA.

Advocacy Council

Communicate with members about government regulations affecting the EHS community. The Advocacy Council meets regularly depending on pending legislation and its relevance to members. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring legislation affecting the EHS profession.
  • Recommending to the Board of Trustees a legislative agenda that represents issues of importance to members.
  • Recommending how and when CSHEMA should officially comment or address a particular topic.
  • Communicating with members about the process and outcomes of regulatory action.

The president selects team members annually in July.


Membership Committee

Expand CSHEMA’s professional community. This committee meets monthly and spends some time outside of meetings making phone calls, interfacing with the annual conference planning committee, etc. Responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming new members.
  • Sharing information with members considering joining CSHEMA.
  • Contacting non-renewing members.
  • Monitoring and recommend changes to the CSHEMA dues structure.

 The president selects team members annually in July.


Rules Committee

Ensure CSHEMA upholds the integrity of the profession by amending the organization’s policies and procedures. This committee meets infrequently unless there is a specific project that needs attention. Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the Governance Subcommittee of the Board of Trustees to align governing documents and procedures with current practices.
  • Researching best practices of nonprofit organizations so they can be reflected in CSHEMA’s operations. Propose changes to governing documents for approval by the board
  • Communicating those changes to the membership when a vote is needed.

Task Force Member

Volunteers on a task force are charged with completing a specific project with defined outcomes. This could include researching best practices and recommending a course of action or the development of a new member benefit. Task forces are generally small, nimble, and narrow in focus. Responsibilities might include:
  • Research and/or benchmarking.
  • Regular task force meetings conducted online.
  • Working in ambiguity.
  • Creation of written reports, articles, or other resources.
  • Presentation of materials, research, or other findings.
Team members are selected as needed when task forces are created.

Nominations Committee

Serve with former CSHEMA Presidents to identify candidates for the elected positions of Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and At-Large Member, on the CSHEMA Board of Trustees. Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate nominations by members for open positions on the Board of Trustees based on criteria.
  • Identify the most qualified and committed individuals to lead the Association.
  • Provide a slate of candidates to the Board of Trustees and Executive Director that is representative of all CSHEMA members.

The President selects two members to serve on this committee with the three most recent former CSHEMA Presidents annually.
