CSHEMA's portal for abstracts is now open for the Fall Symposium on Storytelling set to take place at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, October 11-12, 2022.

Submissions for abstracts will close on August 1, 2022.

Storytelling is a part of our daily lives and part of how we survived long ago: from the family stories we pass on, the books we read, the movies we watch - the list goes on! While many may think of storytelling as a form of entertainment, it is also a transformative tool for safety culture, adult learning, sense- or meaning-making, bonding and relationship building, qualitative research and incident sharing. CSHEMA’s Fall Symposium on Storytelling will explore the science, art and power of storytelling with relation to environmental health and safety and risk management programs on campuses.

We are seeking abstracts on the following general topics and are open to other related ones:

  • Presentations that tell the story of a lab accident, a regulatory inspection, new EHS program implementation, flexing your project management skills, etc - imparting meaning, context and lessons learned to the listener.
  • How your EHS or risk management program has used storytelling as a tool to improve safety culture, relationship-building and/or team cohesiveness on your campus.
  • Storytelling methodologies that can be applied to campus-based EHS or risk management programs.
  • Other storytelling related areas.
